Cruise-N-Learn

A 1-day private coaching session on the first day of your charter*

A Cruise-N-Learn is a great option if:

You have some boating experience but need to refresh your skills

You would like additional coaching while you practice aboard a specific vessel

You are stepping up in size to a larger vessel than you have skippered previously

Your crew needs to learn basic boating skills to safely assist you during your charter cruise

Our Cruise-N-Learn offers practical, hands-on experience tailored to your skill level and the boat you are chartering.

Your instructor will join you on the first day of your charter as you cruise into the beautiful San Juan Islands. During this day of coaching and cruising, you’ll enhance and practice your boating skills, ensuring you can confidently and safely embark on your adventure.

After a port call in Friday Harbor, the instructor returns to Anacortes by ferry, allowing you to continue your bareboat charter on your own.

Cruise-N-Learn training subjects are tailored to your skill level and the boat you are chartering and may include:

  • Close-quarter maneuvering
  • Docking and anchoring
  • Navigation and electronics
  • Chart reading and route planning
  • Tides and currents
  • Vessel orientation and operation
  • Radio communication
  • Emergency procedures
  • Boating safety
Get Certified:

You may opt to schedule additional Cruise-N-Learn days to receive private training as a substitute for our traditional Powerboating Classes or Sailing Classes. To receive an American Boating certificate as a powerboat skipper, a minimum of three days of instruction is required. To receive an American Sailing Association certificate as a sailboat skipper, a minimum of four days of instruction is required. For all certifications, you must successfully demonstrate the required skills and knowledge to the instructor.

The Cruise-N-Learn fee is $450 per day.

*You may opt to have a Cruise-N-Learn instructor join your charter from one to all of the days of your charter at the published Cruise-N-Learn daily fee. If the instructor departs the charter before the vessel returns to Anacortes, you must disembark the instructor at a port in the San Juan Islands with ferry service to Anacortes. If you opt to end the Cruise-N-Learn prior to the end of the scheduled instructor days, no refund will be given.

“Our skipper, Don, was great! He knew the waters and the ports and restaurants. He tracked down whale watchers and we saw a young orca for 30+ minutes. Magical!”
